Page 3: They gave us pins when we started. And a few folks have stopped wearing them when they’re not doing Hundred duty. That’s not me. It could be safer but we shouldn’t be hiding ourselves. We not the KKK. We’re not killing anybody. We’re trying to stay alive. But with half the city thinking Fred Hampton is a devilman and the other half thinking he’s Jesus’ brother, people are scared. The cops are quiet, which no one thinks is a good thing. We had a whole protest last month, went completely uninterrupted. I saw news cameras, I don’t know if it went national or anything. Tell me in your next letter. But either way, nobody cheered. Nobody was excited. It didn’t feel like a victory. It felt like we sent the troops to the wrong location. While we’re storming the south, they could be attacking the north. And we can’t figure out what the “north” even is yet. I talk about myself too much in these things. To answer your questions, yes I did receive the pumpkin bread. That was sweet of you. Nobody up here understands why I eat pumpkin bread in the summer, just like nobody understood at home. Except you. And no, I still don’t know where Donny Hathaway’s house is. And I don’t wanna find out. That’s creepy, Josie. And finally, yes I never put as much sugar in nana’s tea as she wants. Use my trick and tell her to go get my special glass from the cupboard while you make it. If she had it her way she’d have a little bit of tea with her sugar. That woman is a trip.
