Tiny Dynamite + Inis Nua

Theater companies often treat ourselves as separate islands, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Through institutional partnership, Tiny Dynamite and Inis Nua aim to model strength and stability through collaboration and welcome. By working together, Inis Nua and Tiny Dynamite maintain our unique identities while lending each other our unique strengths, enhancing both organizations’ abilities to experiment and grow.

Why partner?

We have always been in conversation with our audiences; now we are in conversation with each other.

About the Partnership

Under the shared leadership of artistic director Kathryn MacMillan, Tiny Dynamite and Inis Nua Theatre Company are thrilled to enter into a creative and administrative partnership, serving the unique and shared goals of both companies. Through shared artistic and administrative infrastructure and at least one co-production a season, this partnership enhances our creative capacity and ability to reach audiences by bringing together two companies with different approaches to overlapping goals: collaboration, partnership, and great storytelling.

Tiny Dynamite creates intimate, inventive, and social events that value experimentation and incubation. Inis Nua produces contemporary, provocative plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales that reflect those countries’ new identities in today’s world. But both companies, at their core, are about forging bonds between artists and audiences, creating immediate, transporting, challenging theater that welcomes and builds profound bonds with the audience sharing the room.

What We’ve Done

2025 has been a thrilling start to our partnership. We’ve co-produced two mainstages through our respective pub-theater programs: Tiny Dynamite’s A Play, a Pie, and a Pint and Inis Nua’s Pop-Up Play in a Pub. Through the expanded capacity offered by our collaboration, we were also able to partner with Northern Ireland’s Big Telly to bring their immersive, participatory Irish wake to the US.

Productions

  • The Greatest Play in the History of the World by Ian Kershaw, November/December 2025
  • Square Go by Kieran Hurley and Gary McNair, June 2025 – Nominated for 5 Barrymore Awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play
  • Granny Jackson’s Dead by Zoe Seaton and Big Telly’s company, April 2025 – Winner, Best Production at the off-Broadway Origin 1st Irish Festival

About Our Companies

Tiny Dynamite’s mission is to offer audiences new ways to experience theater and artists new ways to create it. We present high-quality plays at modest ticket prices, in an environment that is intimate, social, joyful, and welcoming. Our principal project is A Play, a Pie and a Pint®, a form of theater that breaks down perceptions that the arts are only for special occasions: we offer inventive short plays, in unexpected spaces, served with food and beverages.

Translated from the Irish language, Inis Nua means “New Island.” The company’s mission is to produce contemporary, provocative plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales that reflect those cultures’ new identities in today’s world. Inis Nua also seeks to cultivate contemporary, provocative work from American playwrights who deal with the Irish-American, Welsh-American, Scottish-American and Anglo-American experience. Based in Philadelphia, Inis Nua has been producing contemporary, exciting plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales for over 20 years. We have produced 17 American premieres, 13 Philadelphia premieres and 1 world premiere. Inis Nua has been the recipient of 11 Barrymore Awards, including the prestigious June and Steve Wolfson Award for an Evolving Theatre Company (2014).
