One Night Stands

Tiny Dynamite’s A Play, A Pie, and A Pint Presents Valentine Day Reading Series ONE-NIGHT STANDS: Three Comedies about Love & Relationships

The presentation, part of Philadelphia Theatre Week, gets attendees a professional staged reading, a slice of pizza, and a pint of beer or glass of wine.

Tiny Dynamite’s signature series A Play, A Pie, and A Pint, called a “fascinating and unique experience” by Philly Review, returns this February with a Valentine’s themed presentation that features some of Philadelphia’s most delightful performers.  ONE-NIGHT STANDS: Three Comedies About Love and Relationships are script-in-hand performances of sharp, surprising, and witty comedies for grown-ups, presented at Philadelphia Brewing Company’s Historic Tasting Room (2440 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia) on February 14-16, 2018 at 6:30PM.  For $15, guests will enjoy the staged reading, a piece of pizza pie, and a beer, wine, or soft drink.

Each work in the ONE-NIGHT STAND series will be presented only once, making the experience a unique and “limited edition” evening of theatre. The cabaret-style seating keeps the experience social and intimate.  The one-night stands include:

Stuck by Audrey Cefaly

February 14, 2018 at 6:30PM

Directed by Kathryn MacMillan; featuring Jessica Bedford and Sean Close

Bob and Betty are out on their second date when things go terribly wrong. Eager for acceptance, Bob pretends to be more than he is. Betty, new to the world of dating following a recent divorce, struggles to calibrate dating dos and don’ts as she lurches forward into single life. Miscommunication and misfires lead to a delightful conclusion in this contemporary farce about finding love.

Roman Fever by Edith Wharton, adapted by Hugh Leonard

February 15, 2018 at 6:30PM

Directed by Brey Ann Barrett; featuring D’Arcy Dersham and Leah Walton

On a terrace in Rome in 1930, elegant Americans–and seemingly dear friends–Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley are reminiscing about a Roman holiday they shared many years before. Under the surface of their cheerful chatter, however, Mrs. Slade is envious of Mrs. Ansley’s daughter’s recent, highly advantageous, engagement. Mrs. Slade cannot resist a subtle, spiteful attack on her old friend…but underestimating Mrs. Ansley may get her more than she bargained for.

Love Restored, Abridged by Jesse Brownstein

February 16, 2018 at 6:30PM

Directed by Elaina DiMonaco; featuring Sydney Banks, Lily Cumberpatch, Mike Dees, Trevor Fayle, Maggie Johnson, Brandon Pierce, and Amanda Schoonover

Will the charismatic rake Dashington and the witty ingenue Halcya fall in love? Will Halcya escape her father’s demand she marry the doltish Young Bellend? Will our fop Sir Jay Poppins make a  fool of himself? Will everything work out in the end? Of course! The conventions of romantic comedy demand it, after all. Love Restored, Abridged is a contemporary send-up of the familiar tropes of classical comedy: young love, parents vs. children, & gender politics, all presented with a thoroughly saucy, thoroughly modern edge.

ONE NIGHT STANDS continues the seventh season of A Play, A Pie, and a Pint (PPP), the United States version of A Play, A Pie and A Pint – ÒRAN MÓR® that originated in 2004 at the ÒRAN MÓR Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland, under the artistic directorship of Mr David Maclennan, in an effort to bring new audiences to the theatre and to create a supportive community for writers and artists. The basic premise of the project is that one-act plays are served up alongside a “pie” and a “pint” for a low-cost ticket at a non-traditional time of day. Òran Mór’s groundbreaking theatre program now commissions and produces 38 new plays a year, and productions have toured nationally and internationally.

ONE NIGHT STANDS will run February 14-16, 2018 at 6:30PM each evening.  $15 includes admission to the performance, a piece of pizza pie, and a pint of one of Philadelphia Brewing Company’s award winning beers. Tickets can be booked by visiting tinydynamite.org or theatrephiladelphia.org.  Due to the unique nature of the readings, press review tickets are not available.
